Remember The Hotel Evergreen in Edinboro?
« on: April 28, 2008, 09:07:28 AM »
Mr Foodie and I just drove past the old run down hotel last week when we were driving home from Erie.   We were saying how run down and seedy the place looked since all the windows were boarded up.    I had been in there a few times back in the day but it was really a rowdy place I chose to stay away from.    Do any of you remember it?   Well, it's gone now:

Fire destroys former Hotel Evergreen

EDINBORO ? The building that once housed the Hotel Evergreen was destroyed by fire overnight despite the efforts of 10 area fire departments.

A fire dispatcher this morning said the blaze started at the 13320 Cambridge Springs Road building at about 10:48 p.m. Sunday, and crews were on scene within minutes. The building, however, was fully involved in flames.

Ten fire departments, led by Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department, were on scene until about 4:15 a.m. this morning, the dispatcher said.

One firefighter was taken to Hamot Medical Center after sustaining a head injury, according to the dispatcher. The firefighter?s condition was not known.

No other injuries were reported.

Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department officials could not be reached for comment early this morning.

State police fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.

I remember the hotel very well! This guy kept staring at me and licking his lips so I stumbled up to him, punched him hard and knocked him off the bar stool.
That got me thrown outta there. Guess he was the only one in there that liked me. ::)

You are not kidding....although that building was run down and boarded up with high weeds, that is no reason for someone to come and burn it down.

The authorities interviewed the owner (who now lives in FLA) and he said he had no insurance on the building.    Rut Row  :P

I know, what's up with that?   I don't know what it costs to insure a business but our house insurance is pretty reasonable.

You have to wonder if it were not some one near by.    The place was a mess.   I was just in that area last week and Mr Foodie and I mentioned it was such an eyesore.

There were junk vehicles laying around, doors and windows boarded up, high weeds...etc.   Just really seedy and messy looking.

That problem isn't just NWPA, it's everywhere.  People have no pride anymore to take care of what they have.
