China's water woes
NightmarePatrol:
I'm sure that most of you are aware of this, but China has some immense water resource and pollution problems to deal with. I won't get into the details of it here just because the links tell it so much better.
Please note, these are not short reads, but extremely informative.
Part 1: As China rises, pollution soars
Part 2: Though water is drying up, a Chinese metropolis booms
Part 3: In China, a lake's champion imperils himself
China banks on hydropower to cut emissions, but at huge human cost
CindyLouWho:
Some of there waters are already so polluted they can not sustin marine life? And their air is compared to that of a teenage smoker with emphysema?
(still reading.......)
Interesting article btw.
The toll this pollution has taken on human health remains a delicate topic in China. The leadership has banned publication of data on the subject for fear of inciting social unrest
Foodie:
I'm still reading the articles also and what makes me sick is that 90% of the fish and seafood sold around here is imported from China, Thailand, Korea, Bangladesh.....all Asian countries.
I TOTALLY REFUSE TO EAT ANYTHING THAT IS IMPORTED FROM THOSE COUNTRIES.
NightmarePatrol:
It's sad they have let things get as bad as they have. The whole series is pretty unnerving really.
Foodie:
I'm STILL reading and it will probably take me most of the morning :D
Quote>>>>In many parts of China, factories and farms dump waste into surface water with few repercussions. China's environmental monitors say that one-third of all river water, and vast sections of China's great lakes, the Tai, Chao and Dianchi, have water rated Grade V, the most degraded level, rendering it unfit for industrial or agricultural use.<<<<
Grade V ???
