Not only do I have a hypersensitivity to smells but I am also Hyperacusis:

Hyperacusis is a health condition characterized by an over-sensitivity to certain frequency ranges of sound (a collapsed tolerance to normal environmental sound). A person with severe hyperacusis has difficulty tolerating everyday sounds, some of which may seem unpleasantly loud to that person but not to others.

years ago i found a lot of treasures at thrift stores, little tables, lamps, odd wallpaper scraps etc. refinished, refurbished stuff and decorated my house.  it was a hobby for me. i hit a lot of yard slaes too.  SC pointed out a little table i had that looked just like one she found.  that hobby was many years ago. i dont have the time or the desire to do that stuff anymore. as a matter of fact i just gave away a load of stuff i had planned to work on that i never got around to doing anything with...  i guess the kids came into my life and i got wrapped up in them. i suppose i will return to some of the hobbies i had prior when they get older. or not, never know.

Everything we ever donated to the SA had been washed or drycleaned. It would surprise me if someone just peeled off a shirt after wearing it for three days and just threw it into the SA box to be dropped off. Ok, ok,,,,,no it wouldn't surprise me knowing some types of people I know! ::)

But I bet people hoard clothes in dressers, attics, basements, garages and closets for eons and then clothes then tend to smell.   That is when they decide it is time to donate.

I have gone to garage sales and found the clothes to smell awful.   YUCK.
