I heard that they were going to attempt one last time to get the park to open this weekend. The downside is that if it didn't open this weekend it would be closed for the remainder of the year.

What's the latest, is that rumor or is there any truth to it?

I haven't heard anything about the Park opening at all. Who is trying to open it? Stearns and Dreschner? Someone else? Was that in the paper?

That came from my parents. I don't know what their sources are, but they are usually pretty reliable. So I guess it's all or nothing come this weekend. ???

So as I am told the park is about to have its insurance policy lapse unless that can come up with some funding. If it does lapse, what next? Nobody in their right mind would purchase a company with that much debt. That combined with the fact if the park wants to compete with other amusement parks it has no place to expand. In my estimation they would need at least 500 acres to compete with any of the parks in the large surrounding cities. As it sits I see a lame duck that is waiting to be devoured by some investors and turned into a promenade area that will be full of boutique shops, trendy eateries and nightclubs. Or more housing is a possibility, but it's zoned commercial and that makes it pretty ripe.

Can the park be saved and still be able to turn a profit?

even on the tribune i never post about the park, i dont know anything about the contoversy, havent been to the park since dating my husband over 25 years ago. i understand the emotionally charged nature of the issue of those involved but since i have no ties, (current or past), to the park or conneaut lake in general, i would just look like a fool commenting on something i know nothing about..

A township supervisor told me tonight that there was a man that wanted to buy the park and keep it as is for $500,000.00 and Stearns never told the judge about it.

I really don't see how the park can be saved in its current state without being sold. The only exception would for it to become government funded which is a completely different set of rules. Part of the problem is that the park has never really updated the rides or anything else and the public wants to see new and better rides. Competition in the amusement park business is tough. Another problem is that park has no place to expand to so they can add the attractions.

As much as I like the park and it was a part of me growing up, I fear that the park as I know it has ceased to exit. What is worse is that I don't see much hope for the park to ever be restored to a profitable entity. I really hate to sound negative about it, however I think the only hope for the park is for it to be sold to someone who is willing to assume the liability. The problem there is the park is probably worth more as realestate then it is as a park. How that land is zoned I don't know so I can't say what kind of use is acceptable for it.

If the land is zoned commercial I don't see much choice for it to be sold to pay off the debt. Then it's future will be determined by it's new owners.

Sorry, I just don't see any happy endings.

Are the Beach Club and the hotel open? Are they going to open? Or were the lights simply turned on to meet the need of the year-round residents of the park?

I haven't been over on that side of the lake in weeks. The paper says the Beach Club will open Friday. I can't imagine the park has to have any lights on for a park resident. It's all beginning to sound a little funny to me. I don't understand the push to do anything this year.

As I understand it some of the street lights were on the same circuit that park was on, so when the lights got shut off in the park it took out some of the street lights in the resideltial areas immediately adjecent to the park. I'm not sure why this was though.

I've concluded that there is absolutely no rhyme or reason regarding things in the park. Seems that everything was cobbled together in the cheapest way possible. The post about the freezing pipes elsewhere was a hoot! Why would you endure that year after year??
