'Five Guys? to plant roots in Vernon

VERNON TOWNSHIP ? Can?t get enough burgers and fries? A new eatery may be under construction later this summer at Park Avenue Plaza.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, a Lorton, Va.-based chain, has plans for a restaurant at the plaza, according to Fred Phillis, president of South Park Plaza Inc., which owns the Vernon Township shopping center.

Phillis confirmed Tuesday the company has a lease with the plaza for an approximate 2,500-square-foot restaurant. It would be located on the former site of Pizza Hut at the westbound Route 322 entrance to the plaza, Phillis said.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is a limited-menu restaurant offering burgers, hot dogs, french fries and soft drinks. It operates in 25 states including Pennsyl-vania as well as the District of Columbia.

Plans for the building are to be submitted to the Vernon Township Planning Commis-sion, according to Paul Roiz, the zoning officer, who said township supervisors are expected to act on the matter at their July meeting.

If approved, construction would begin in July, Phillis said, and it will take approximately 90 days to complete.

I have heard good things about it here.  I just never manage to get there before they are closed.

Kimmi,,,,PH didn't leave. They built a new one right beside the old one which is the one the burger people are going to move into after some remodling I suppose.

i guess im saying that coz we are getting older and out stomachs are less tolerant of burgers..

~ KFC is still in its location.

~ The old Pizza Hut was torn down and rebuilt on the other side of KFC.

~ There is now just a cement slab where the old PH used to be and that is where the burger joint will be built.

Thanks Foodie,,,, I guess I left some real doubt for Kimmi. I had forgotten they tore the old PH down and that KFC was in between. I'm loosing it day by day. I gotta git ta town more often. By the way,,,, Is the Mayflower still in business. Drank a few beers there.

Foodie,,, The Mayflower was on the SW corner of Mercer and Water street. Big old hotel/bar with a hot shuffleboard and good beer. Was torn down when the by-pass went in .
