Foodie,,, The Mayflower was on the SW corner of Mercer and Water street. Big old hotel/bar with a hot shuffleboard and good beer. Was torn down when the by-pass went in . :(

Foodie,,,, we were young then and only stopped at the Mayflower to show off. Mostly old men in there drinking beer and playing Shuffleboard on the machine but they could beat the pants off of us. Get about half on the cheap beer and then move on up town to the High spots where we could get into trouble without half trying!

I grew up in Meadville (water st) and I recall a lot of the buildings in and around town before it was "modernized" and the arterial hwy was put in. I may have seen that building there once before.

TiFe, what a cool link........thanks!!!

I remember  Water St from Krogers all the way down to cutters on the corner of Poplar and Water. I remember seeing the whole western block on Water St from Chestnut down to  Mead Ave on fire. Oh what a morning that was...

Another Burger/Hot Dog joint? WhyOHWhy can't we get a Eat'n'Park?????????????????????????????????????????

I hope the burgers aren't as greasy as Steak'n'shake. Actually, our favorite burger right now is Malady's seasoned burgers. Yum.

because it's confusing. You see, you first PARK, then EAT. The sign is misleading.  ???

I think I ate at every eat-n-park in the greater Pittsburgh area. Especially the one in Bridgeville.  :drooling:

I met Donnie Shell and John Stahlworth in the E'n'P on Banksville Road back in the 70's. I got their autograph on a paper napkin and carried it in my wallet until it disintegrated.......

I always liked "The Club" - the E'n'P in Sewickley, along Ohio River Blvd. Lots of memories there. And the one in Robinson by the movie theatres

Okay, now that we're back up we went to Five Guys last Friday night.

All I can say is that it was the best fast food burger I have ever had. My son, who had never finished a happy meal burger in his life ate an entire adult burger.  They have two burger sizes, small and regular. The difference is that the regular sized burgers are a double patty and the smalls are a single. A regular order of fries is easily  enough for two plus people.

The decor is simple. A walk up counter where you place your order at one and and pick iut up at the other. Everything is no-frills. From my perspective they put all their money into the food prep equipment and not the decor.  How long are you really going to spend in a burger place anyhow? There's no playgrounds or toys or anything the is kid centered. They make burgers, and good ones at that. I was impressed that the kids ate as well as they did.

Price-wise they are more expensive than the McDonalds and Burger Kings and less than Steak and shake. But I think they have a superior better product too.

If you like peanuts you can also get lots of them there as  they sell them in bulk. Don't ask me why, they just do.

For what they say they are and what they do they get a great rating. If you want the classic 50's steak & shake look then go to steak and shake. If you want a really good burger and fries then five guys is the place. No kidding!
