It doesn't seem right

I don't know if any of you have heard of or have been following the plight of Anton Geiser of Sharon.

Mr Geiser is an 83 year old man who has lived in Sharon since the 1960s. He came to the U.S. in 1956 and became a citizen in 1962. He and his wife raised three sons and he retired from Sharon Steel in 1987.

The problem is that Mr Geiser was e very young guard at a Nazi concentration camp in WWII. The State Department has taken it upon themselves to strip the law abiding, tax paying Geiser of his citizenship and are actively trying to deport him. By their own admission they know that he was merely a guard, but they mistakenly granted him a visa allowing him to come here, and he failed to mention his service.

Thousands of German speaking young men in Eastern Europe and the Balkans were forced into the Waffen SS in WWII, as Mr Geiser was. He was an ethnic German born in Croatia. He simply had no choice.

Mr Geiser lost his appeal today and will likely be deported into oblivion, with no friends or family, at the age of 83.

No second appeals? Wonder if he could apply for a pardon?

His lawyer has 90 days to ask the Supreme Court to hear his case. I'll bet that they won't hear the case.

Its nice to know that there are so many people who still posess a sense of justice. Thanks for your responses.

Now how is it someone can pose a question like this on a message board on the internet and a dozen people respond unanimously that it is wrong but this guy is being kicked to the curb?  So who stood up and made the initial decision that this guy has to go?  What an asshole.  And what law is making it happen?   If he is a US citizen, I don't understand!

I could see if this fellow were like Demjanyuk (sp) years ago - but a guard conscripted against his will into service is another thing. What's Israel's take on the fellow? I mean - if they don't want him - I would imagine he is not a 'person of interest' we should be concerned about.

Hi CLW,

The reason is simple. It is because the sensible, justice loving people who built our fine country are no longer in control. At some point the people who we have given the honor of speaking on our behalf have decided that we the people matter least. There is no fairness, honor or sensibility in government any longer. It is all politics.

I don't think there is a whole lot that we can do bighair80s. Being that Mr Geiser is going through the judicial system his fate is in the hands of lawyers, judges and State Dept. folks. These people do not concern themselves with public opinion, they feel that they have a monopoly on justice.

And as far as writing to Senators, Congressmen and Presidents, no elected official is going to go on record as championing the cause of anyone affiliated with the Nazis even slightly. Antisemitism does not get one reelected. Not worth the potential fallout.

I must allow for Jim Trafficant as an exception to my last paragraph. He was as crooked as the day is long, but he had the guts to stand by John Demyanyuk in a much more questionable circumstance.

Mr R.

By the way, I like it here. This is a sharp group, glad to belong.

Isn't there a statute of limitations on this crap?  I feel bad for the old guy.  He chose to live here.  Now he's getting the old heave ho!  Thanks for contributing to our social security fund!  ::)
