Fair attractions
« on: August 11, 2007, 10:49:56 AM »
I just saw an article in the tribune about one of the attractions at the fair here. They actually have pro wrestling at the fair? I've been away a long time, but ummm, you gotta be kidding! People actually pay to see this?

Nope.  Cause it's free!.

The pro wrestlers ar an attraction every year and always free and there is always a pretty good crowd.  My husband has taken our kids a couple times but has said they are getting out of hand with the violence and with my son in particular being into sports, he doesn't think it's such a good thing.

The thumbtack match won't go over well with the fair board. Personally - I think that's a bad idea. Granted wrestling is scripted - but bloody tacks hanging out of a fellow's back is real. Doing it in front of impressionable 7 and 8 year olds in wrong-headed .

I just have a thing in taking kids to see events like that. At that age it's hard to separate entertainment from reality. There's just so many more quality things that parents could take their kids to see.  I'm biased againts the pro-wresting thing and I freely admit it. But all things considered I thing the fair committie could do better.

i like the little piglet races, especially if i have a 4 year old with me, so much fun to see the kids reaction more than the piggy race....

It's food and animals for me. My 3 year old loves the sheep and cows. (Of course that was when she was 2...) She was hep on the goats too. The pigs kinda scare her because last year one got free from the kid handling it and knocked her on her butt.

"BAD PIG!! BAD BAD STINKY PIG!"

*sigh*

I hope she feels that way about boys in 10 years.

Thanks, I have a 3 year old daughter that I almost hate to see grow up. She's a tiny little thing with a pit bull attitude. She's gonna make somebody cry when she gets older. I just hope it's not me and my wife!

"I just hope it's not me and my wife!"
And a big FAT CHANCE goes out to NP as well.
You will cry a few times I'm afraid.  I put that out there with experience having 2 girls.  Like my mother said, "When they're little they step on your toes.  When they're big they step on your heart".

First of all...HELLO EVERYONE!

I like to visit the draft horses at the fair, and I love the art and photography exhibits. Oh, and the quilts. I really admire the people who can put together some of those very beautiful quilts.

I am one of those rare people who NEVER eat the fair food. It's not that I don't like it, I just don't go there to eat. At the Cochranton fair I bought a little box of popcorn and a bottle of water because I hadn't eaten much all day and needed the salt from the popcorn, and some water. I don't get doughboys, or any of that junk.

I would love to see the Skynyrd concert, but I know sometimes it gets brutal for storms during fair week. Hopefully this year will be dry, as it has been fairly dry all summer.

You'll have to stop by the 4H barn and visit my horse!

I like those big draft horses that are born black, turn dapple dray and then turn white when they are older.  You can almost age them by their colors.

I don't have draft horses.  Got a quarter gelding (going to fair) a cute and sassy mustang mare, and a paint gelding (who actually is sold but staying with me a while longer).  Looking for a mare to replace a thoroughbred we just let go too.   My qarter is boss here.  He's so gentle it's unbelievable.  Until another male comes in.  Then he is aggressive....quite the different personality.  Nobody is allowed to go near his mare.   So we figure we will keep mares out there with him.  He's older and I don't suppose he'll change and he's here for the long haul.  He has hurt two other geldings we tried out there with him.  Funny thing is, they were both bigger and much younger than him.  We thought maybe they would put him in his place. Right.   I had to treat a leg for four months with hydrotherapy and dressings twice a day.  The other nearly lost his eye and had several cuts.  He's super out at shows.  Never a problem.  Quiet and easy going.   He's been shown for at least 15 years now though.
