This is Very Bad News.......
« on: September 14, 2008, 06:27:01 PM »
Below is a link to a 35 minute video of a news conference held recently by State Representative Sam Rohrer of Berks County. In this conference he explains that there is a very real possibility that driver's license photographs being taken by Penndot are being manipulated into a biometric facial scan. The scans are as unique as a fingerprint, and would allow compliance to a deadline set by the Dept. of Homeland Security to participate in the Federal RealID program by all states by December 31, 2009.

The RealID program is about as unconstitutional and Orwellian as you can get. Rep. Rohrer even points out that Penndot may have already, without the consent of the photgraphed individuals, gone back a few years and have generated biometric scans in a retroactive fashion.

Every day we seem to lose a little more liberty and basic rights of privacy to a portion of government that would like nothing more than to track a citizen from cradle to grave. This is just the beginning.

Write to your local representatives in support of Rep. Rohrer's action.

Give the video 10-15 minutes at least, and do some googling, it may open your eyes a bit.

The federal government is trying to force states to turn your drivers license into a national ID. Speaking as a computer geek, the Real ID Act will create grave dangers to privacy and impose massive financial burdens without improving national security in the least.

The REAL ID Act of 2005 made a nationwide standard for national ID cards, in the form of state-issued driver licenses. After 2013, older non-REAL ID compliant ID cards would not be accepted to open bank accounts, enter federal buildings, board commercial airlines or trains, or or passports. Not having a government approved ID card so they have all your information would mean you would be an illegal citizen in your own country! It passed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in 2005. The bill, however, faced no opposition in the Senate, passed 100-0! It would appear that our elected officials do not read the text of the bills in front of them? The actual title of the bill was "An act making Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2005, and for other purposes."

Once the IDs and databases are in place, their uses will inevitably expand to facilitate a wide range of surveillance activities. Remember, the Social Security number started innocuously enough, but it has become a prerequisite for a host of government services and been coopted by private companies to create massive databases of personal information. A national ID poses similar dangers; for example, because "common machine-readable technology" will be required on every ID, the government and businesses will be able to easily read your private information off the cards in myriad contexts.

Real ID won't just cost you your privacy. The federal government didn't give the states funds to implement the law and overcome its many administrative burdens, so the billions of dollars in costs will be passed down to you in the form of increased DMV fees or taxes.

And what will you get in return? Not improved national security, because IDs do nothing to stop those who haven't already been identified as threats, and wrongdoers will still be able to create fake documents. In fact, the IDs and database will simply create an irresistible target for identity thieves.

So when does this all happen? It depends on the state. Montana has out and out refused any part of the  program.  Some are already issuing REAL compliant cards. Some have banned the issuing of REAL ID for the exact reasons we’ve talked about above. Most states will have to begin issuing REAL compliant IDs by May 11th, 2008 unless they’ve filed an extension, in which case that date is December 31, 2009. In May 2013, all people with non-REAL ID cards will no longer be allowed to enter federal buildings, get a passport, travel on planes or trains.

So on to the issues as they relate to the election.

Obama: "I do not support the Real ID program because it is an unfunded mandate, and not enough work has been done with the states to help them implement the program." (read he likes it, but wants more money doled out to the states to help them implement it"

McCain: “The 9/11 Commission recommended that the federal government set standards for the issuance of birth certificates and sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses. Consistent with these recommendations, the Real ID act established federal guidelines to prevent fraud in the issuance and acquisition of identity documents. I support full implementation of Real ID but understand that states need to be given enough time and funding to implement the requirements.” (read he's uninformed or just really dumb)

Ron Paul:     “I do not support any Real ID program, and I would seek the repeal of all federal laws mandating a Real ID program. The Real ID Act imposes tremendous costs on state governments, yet any state that opts out will automatically make nonpersons out of its citizens. The citizens of that state will be unable to have any dealings with the federal government because their ID will not be accepted. They will not be able to fly or to take a train. In essence, in the eyes of the federal government, they will cease to exist.

However, the most objectionable feature of the Real ID Act is that it turns state driver’s licenses into de facto national ID cards, thus facilitating the massive invasion of an American’s privacy, facilitating the growth of the surveillance state, and turning America into the type of country where citizens must always have their ‘papers in order.’” (read he actually gets it)

Have I spewed enough yet?  ::)

And - thanks to the Patriot Act, you can't open or have a bank account without having a valid photo ID. So - - - does this sound a tad "Revelatory?"

I remember sitting at the Sunday dinner table as a kid listening to my Grandfather predicting bar code scanning, a scannable strip on a card to replce paper currency and microchipping of individuals back in the late 70's. He also spoke alot of Europe uniting under a central authority (E.U.).

We always got uncomfortable when he began to talk like this, we thought maybe he was losing some mental faculties. The majority of the things he ranted about have come to pass. I wish he were still around to discuss things with.......

Did I mention he was an avid student of the book of Revalations......?

I know this is resurrecting a very old thread, but there is an update:

On February 1, 2011 Uncle Janet and the DHS have now mandated that Real ID cards will become a reality. States can file an extension to get past the May 11, 2011 deadline. The scuttlebutt in the IT community is the cards are going to be pretty high tech, which means they will be harder, but not impossible to forge. This also means creating a more extensive network of systems to aggregate data for availability.  There is also rumored discussion of having tracking chips embedded in the card. The only real practical was to do this would be to use technology similar to that being developed by Dust Networks. At this point it's all conjecture, but it is possible.

Doe the phrase "Ihre Papiere bitte" mean anything to anyone?

Ihre Papiere bitte...Your Papers Please... Ok... File for Social Security and see what they ask for.... Drivers License.... Bank accounts.... even to be able to escort your children on a School trip... We have been ponying up all kinds of papers.... not to mention your Mother's maiden name... So what is the point of this thread other than discussing the methods used??

Look in the mirror and look at your parents.... those are the ones who let it slide down this slippery slope. Maybe we should identify ourselves with ANUS prints.... Everyone I know can be an individual Arsehole...and who would counterfit an anus LOL. Hmmmm maybe a new illegal service LOL. I don't have an answer to this situation that would be acceptable..

Yes we pay for it one way or another but the the implementation is going to be shoddy.

As far as the privacy thing goes. This is being dealt to us a an anti-illegal/anti terrorism measure. Real IDs does nothing to stop those who haven't already been identified as threats, and criminals will still be able to create fake documents. In fact, the IDs and database will simply create an giant target for identity thieves. Once they find (and snatch) the golden egg... what's next when you hold all the cards? A giant shopping spree at our expense?

I won't even go into the privacy issues as they are pretty extensive. It's just an expensive bloated POS that serves no real function other than putting all our eggs in one basket.

In modern society, unless you live out of it AND off the grid... you can expect no privacy in your travels or deeds. Trace your whereabouts with Cellphones, vehicles and random use of credit cards and cameras. "Minority Report" is upon us as well. So...where do you go?

Real ID  will be exploited by the private sector extensively. Real ID would make it easy for anybody in private industry to snap up the data on these IDs. Already, bars often swipe licenses to collect personal data on customers – but that will prove to be just the tip of the iceberg as every convenience store learns to grab that data and sell it to data companies for a dime. Imagine carrying an RFID enabled lID around with you. It would log your entrance and exit to any store that choose to capture it. At toll booths or speed check points on roads (speed=distance/time). Hmmm, you went to the bathroom three times during a movie. I guess you either need flomax or possibly a good hookup with Charlie Sheen. Okay, that's just the a taste of the locale side of things.

There's more information collected about you than you think when you visit big sites with deep pockets. Hey, lets aggregate that together with your surfing habits and profile you. Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft (even NPR) and a very long list of other sites profile you when you visit. The opportunity for exploitation is huge.

The Revelations passages you mentioned are: Revelation 13:15-18 regarding the mark of the Beast and not being able to buy or sell without the mark, and the number, either on your hand or forehead.

"Revelation 13:15-18 (King James Version)

15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

My observations about tracking your purchases have already come to pass through the little cards we swipe at nearly every store in town. Sure, they offer incentives, such as lower prices or deals on gas, but they can track every purchase made by you to that card. WalMart does not use them, nor does Valesky's in town.

Personally I hate carrying the durn things around. I think they will use the "idenity theft" threats as a means to get us all to agree to a tattoo, or a microchip.

They have ink that's only visible with a blacklight. Tattoo artists have been using it for some time. And we microchip our pets now.

....a long time  back, those little discount cards started tracking the purchases of one HILLARY CLINTON, with a well known D.C. residential phone number attached for the quick use at the pump w/o even having to dig out the card
