A 20 Year Eyesore is Finally Gone
« on: September 17, 2008, 01:23:34 PM »
Anyone remember on Park Ave that 24 hour video rental place across from Wendys and the Community Center?   I think Howicks bought it and the building is finally being torn down.

Kudos to Howicks.....that was such an eyesore and I am surprised it was allowed to stand vacant and graffiti'ed for so long.

Was that the little drive through type of building on the same block as Sherry's?

Well Sherry's is on Water St where the old Krogers used to be.   This lot is on the corner of Park and Pine.   Howicks Auto Body is on one corner, Wendy's the other corner and the Senior Center on the other.

There's a lot to that story there. Apparently, there are some unhappy folks involved and some hard feelings exist about the bidding process for the property and how City Council decided on use and such.

It's gonna turn onto another kind of eyesore when he moves his junk parts cars there for months on end. Ever see some of the cars parked in the leased public spaces behind Family Video - you know with broken windows, rust and jagged metal? Or the opnes in the city lots by Tech Tune and Lube? They'll probably be on the corner of Pine and Park Ave now.

I think we are taalking about the same corner, wasn't there a distributer right behind there? Anyway, it is sort of a gateway to Meadville, that whole stretch from the "new" McDonalds to the old Dunkin' Donuts needs a facelift...or a tummy tuck.  :P

Howicks is going to sell their cars on that lot and probably discontinue the lot beside Subway further down Park avenue, according to the article in the newspaper..
