Funny, I don't feel racist

I am sorry, this just kills me. It is nice to see that our elected officials hold us in such high regard. Aren't we a bit beyond this?

Apparently not in the estimation of Mr Murtha.

Tell me he's freakin' running for re-election and then he makes a statement like that. He's more erratic than - than - John McCain!

The Tribune had a sound off in it from someone that said "If you don't vote for Obama because he's black - you're a racist." Would the same statement hold true if a black person votes for Obama solely because he's black?

I'm either voting for Ron Paul or for Bob Barr.

Life and I have been over this prior to your arrival Mr R. It would appear that we're all on the same page politically. Kinda weird ain't it?

ok, I'm racist, but i'm an equal opportunity racist.  I hate everyone equally.  With the exception of ex hubbies.  They just flat out blow moose dink.  ;D  Now there is one way everyone else can keep from being hated and even then it is iffy but it falls into bribery.  Good thing I'm not a politician nor do I even attempt to play one on TV. That is make me chocolate fudge and bring me valium and sing kumbaya to annoy the neighbor's dogs with me.  Then I do hate them a little less which I guess would make me give them brownie points.  Or would that be reverse racism?  I dunno.  Bring me chocolate fudge and valium.  We'll figure it out.

I'm not sure who I really have more disdain for but in this name calling, muck raking mess of an election we have been faced with.

a) The racist card (Biden qualifies for that better than anyone, research some of his quips)
b) The feminist sellout card (they hate Palin because she's pro-life and hunts but can't respect her because she's actually succeeded)
c) The Obama is a closet muslim accusation (he's not)

I could go on and on with the truckloads of meaningless emotionally charged manure that has been circulating. I was almost of thinking of voting for a candidate that actually answered a question during the debates. That never seemed to happen though.

I'm done with it. I guess I need to make sure I have a stamp laying around the house.

We would probably have quite a discussion over coffee and pie. I would like to think that we are early in a trend.

Even Murtha said that nobody seemed to show a great deal of enthusiasm over either choice that we are presented with in this election......

Alright, let me stir the pot here.  The opinions I express here are to help you understand how life is through the eyes of someone who stands out in a "white" crowd.  It would be so much easier just to ignore this topic (like we usually do), but then you would think your feelings of there isn't any racism in W. PA are valid.

1st of all,  the people NW PA are some of the best I have ever met.  The reason you take offense to the Murtha statement is that it is not in your nature to be that way.  This tolerance goes down past the city of Pittsburgh.

Once you start getting east of 79 and just west of Harrisburg, I start hearing banjos playing.  When you get close to the Maryland / PA  border in this area the banjos are loud.   You are now asking, is this just in your head?  How can you tell?  I can tell by the double looks and the focus of the eyes and the looks on their face.  One picture tells a thousand words.  I am always polite on the road, but once you get "that look" I know it is time to leave.  Sometimes you get that look from everyone you pass by in that establishment.  When getting fuel and food a few miles off the highway is a complete different experience than getting the same right off the the Interstate.

It is hard to imagine what racism feels like, when you don't experience it.  Put a red dot on the middle of your head for the whole day or wear a turban and see peoples reactions.   Then if your brave enough, have lunch at a small diner in the Pennsylvania Wilds section.  I guarantee it will be alot scarier that Haunted Conneaut Lake! ;D

Thanks for letting me rant!

Well Pinball, I do understand what you are saying. I spent eight years working in South Central Los Angeles. Part of my job involved me traveling to Watts and Compton. In a company of over 1000 people I was 1 of under a dozen white males. Acceptance was very difficult thing for me to gain, the trust thing was even harder. Granted I only had to live with that eight hours per day, but it was an eye-opening experience to say the least (especially during the company Juneteenth celebration).

People are people once you get below the surface. Yes there are some absolute differences between cultures and their value systems, but we all have the same needs at our core levels. To add to the controversy pot, would you say that there is a genetic marker that causes some sort of reaction in our psyche's when someone appears "different" or out of place? I do, and it's a bitch to overcome especially when you on the short end of the stick because it forces you to either be an outcast or make a leap of faith.
