Stimulus Tracker
« on: July 20, 2009, 08:19:10 AM »
Okay, here's the idea. I have seen several stimulus initiative stories. Anybody else have any knowledge of bailout money on the way to MW PA?

Community Action Partnership of Mercer County: $5,231,678 for a weatherization  program.

$660,000 for a bridge replacements in Townville and Cranberry Township. in Crawford County

$2,213,188 for resurfacing Route 77 in Crawford County

What else is in the works?

ok, today just a hop-skip and jump from me they were tearing up the curbs for the curb project as mentioned on the above website..  i happened to notice  that the company doing it, all the trucks had ohio plates and sure enough the website did say it was an ohio company. the Joe Lofaro Concrete co and the contract is for $541,180, that is a lot of local clam$ going to an out of state company. i dont want to sound like a complainer
(edit to cut out complaining as i said i was not going to )  :D

is it just low bid or how are these contracts awarded? i would have thought it would make sense to keep the local work force employed?? or at least someone in pennsylvania for pete's sake!!  perhaps i do not understand the way the govt works. likely i do not want to...

11 people fulltime for 6 months to repaint "RAILROAD CROSSING AHEAD" throughout mercer county? How many crossings can we possibly have, and why would it take more than 2 people at any one time to get the job finished in 1/6th that time?

I'm not going to pretend I know what all is involved in repainting signs but it does seem rather excessive.  Attached is a map of local railroad lines, at least according to nationalatlas.gov. I can't verify how accurate it is but I'm sure there is at least one person who is a member of this site who can say yay or nay to it.

Don't know about Mercer County but man do we have a lot of railroad crossings in Crawford County!   No matter which was I go when I leave my driveway I willcross a set on my way to wherever......sometimes  two.  Enough to employ 11 people full time for six months for painting?  Four maybe.  Send a couple to one end of the county and another set on the other end of the county and they ought to be able to get it done.  Maybe they work like PennDot.....you will see a dozen guys at a small job out on a country road....filling potholes or something.....seems they need a few to stand and hover over the others......guess they are supervisors.....someone has to sit and protect the vehicles......there's the cone guy, the sign guy.....What was I thinking.  Now that I add up all the responsibilities it all makes sense.
