The PI
« on: October 20, 2016, 07:05:49 PM »
So today the Philippines declared they were breaking ties and aligning themselves with China. I wonder how this flew under the radar. I'm sure at some level we knew it was coming. Most people won't think much of it, but it's a fairly big deal given is proximity to everything in southeast asia.

Back when the Volcano, Mount Pinatubo, blew... we had to remove our base at S(P)ubic Bay (for those Navy Guys who remember the nickname). All the working girls near the bas had to make a living but I suspect most ended up planting rice. Now they want nothing to do with us??? This guy is a nut job. When we left Vietnam in the 70's, the Russians stepped in. Shortly the Locals started saying... "The Russians are 'AMERICANS' without money. It will all come to the level of CASH. Besides... we have several basses within "earshot" of PI and it is kind of funny they were negotiating 6+ bases for the US as well as Japan ...on their soil. This is a "power play" by a man covered in gasoline and he isn't in control of the matches.... we are. China may try to finagle a base on PI but... it would be smothered by our presence and we would be shadowing anything coming and going. China's Navy...ain't all that. IMHO. The PLA is not the powerhouse some think.

1 Aircraft carrier.... Holding how many planes???
4 Amphibious transport docks (LPD)
1 Mobile Landing Platform
32 Landing ship tanks (LST)
31 Landing ship medium (LSM)
8 Attack submarines (SSN)
55 Attack submarines (SSK)
5 Ballistic missile submarines (SSBN)
2 Experimental submarine.... WTF???
27 Destroyers
47 Frigates
27 Corvettes
109 Missile boats
94 Submarine chasers
17 Gunboats
29 Mine countermeasures vessels
11 Replenishment oilers
232 Auxiliaries (various) *Maybe Junks LOL

I think India has a larger force. A lot of the Chinese vessels were made in China but the most "dangerous" ones were made in the Ukraine/Russia and are "old construct".

So let this play out and see if this PI Leader is blowing smoke...

As I recall one of the carriers they got from the old USSR was converted into a casino. No, China does not have much in the way of a Navy, but I'm sure they want to change that. Whether they actually can or not remains to be seen.

The new president of the PI is a wing-nut in every sense of the word.

China has been on a roll lately building islands, calling it sovereign territory and trying to use that to extend the international waters around them. It's been a huge point of contention between them and their neighbors. I'm sure there is an end-game there too.

The Chinese are wing nutz too. They are claiming the South China Sea is theirs as it contains their name   :o They have BILLIONS of Military people but.... have NO way to transport enough to do anything. That leaves missiles and I bet they are limited and easy targets for our ANTI missile system. To win a land war...they would have to use HUMAN SUICIDE WAVES... if they can get them out of their country. I see Sabre Rattling is basically with rusted and bent sabres...even ours to a certain extent. An Army at WWI/II levels is not a good thing. "Modern Fighters" that have yet to be used and still years out from final deployment/approval and billions in costs and rising...

Our Country has one thing that would be a "do not touch" to countries who are thinking about "invading". We have MORE weapons in the US than people... Say 1/3 of our population can and will use them... a 100 million person reserve is nothing to sneeze at.

So...now we HAVE to worry about a Balut eating Butt hole?? Not I.

How was it again that the PI originally came under U.S. control at the turn of the last century? Oh, that's right. Voluntary application for statehood.

Found this to be interesting...

At the conclusion of the Spanish-American War, ( which we seemed to have won, by the way.) Spain ceded control of Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico and Guam remain U.S. territories, while the Philippines eventually became an independent nation. Spain also relinquished its claim over Cuba, allowing the island to become a fully independent state.( Sans Guantanamo Bay.... a small cost to Cuba.. in fact it employs many Cubans and helps the economy.)

As far as PI...the American presence was also economically beneficial in that it includes employment and even our efforts to improve infrastructure, education, as well as protection. And now PI President Dingle Berry is kicking out his cash cow... Yup...sounds like a solid plan.

U.S. control ...maybe.... but PI benefited greatly from it. Over 100 years since we...the USA has acquired any land, other than a patch to bury our dead. "Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory....."
