Well evidently we have a squirrel in the attic. I have not visualy veriied this of course. It's the most likely culprit though. Anybody know a good way to get it out?  The 12 guage is not on the list of possible solutions.
Google  shake away rodent repellent.... I swear by this stuff. Used to have squirrels, chipmunks around my house all the time, not no more

You know - when I first read the topic line, I thought you were being self-descriptive.

Nah, it would have been "need to clean out the attic"

I intend to do it myself. I've got a really big new bathouse ready to put up. I need to get some of the bats manure and put in the new house so they will go to it.  Then seal the attic up. I just wondered why this stuff wouldn't shoo them out like any other rodent.

I shouldn't have to buy any. After over a hundred years there has to be 3 feet of it in the attic. House is 167 years old. No access to the attic. I will hve to make one in the hallway.

very true lock! you need to use their own guano, they will smell their scent in the bat houses. first you need to look at dusk at ALL their exit points from the eaves or wherever, then put a netting around those exit points on three sides. the netting needs to extend down at least a foot below the exit point, they will come out & hit the net & go down to exit. when they come back they can't see the netting & can't enter into you home, after 4-5 days ck at dusk again to see if anyother exit points exit & net them, then after 7-10 days ck again to see if any are still exiting, if not then safe to remove the netting & seal all the holes with caulking or foam insulation with steel wool in it. then  make hole in attic & remove guano & put in bat house. after all guano is removed then spray attic with a sanitizer & deoderizer. also make sure to wear gloves & respirator when cleaning!!!! their dust can cause serious repiratory illness'!!!! best time to do it is in winter cause they do migrate!!! but know the exit points first!! i personally dont like to do them, 1. ladder work, hate heights! 2. VERY time consuming!! 3. expensive for the customer!! range anywhere from $600 to $1500+!!!!

Pest, all you say is true. I wasn't sure if they leave the home in the winter or just hibernate there. As a youg boy I ran across 6 bats hibernating between two boards in the atticwhere I lived in Harmonsburg.. So I'm not really sure.
