Well at least 2/3 of the US population has some sanity.....

Also how about that swamp:
Fewer than one in four of those surveyed, 23 percent, say Trump has  delivered on his campaign promise to "drain the swamp" in Washington. A  57 percent majority, including nearly one in five Republicans, say "the  swamp" has gotten worse during his administration.

The swamp as compared to Obama:
https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/28/opinions/trump-swamp-convictions-since-nixon-avlon/
Counting backwards, we'll start with President Trump's nearest predecessor, President Obama. After  all, it was the Obama administration that Trump and his followers were  targeting most directly with the talk of draining the swamp and the  culture of government corruption. But it turns out that over eight years  there was only one person in the Obama executive branch who pleaded  guilty to a crime -- and it was a misdemeanor. That would be then-CIA  director David Petraeus, who pleaded guilty to one count of  removing and retaining classified information in conjunction with a  tawdry affair. He received two years probation and paid a $100,000 fine.

Here's another thought - provoking article from The Atlantic. I've never read Machiavelli's The Prince. The author's references to other researchers' context of Machiavelli's era is interesting, as is the author's conclusions.  But, it is a little long. Still ruminating on it - I am only posting this as information.

I’m thinking of another thought provoking text.. 🧐 ...

Mueller once again is draining the swamp of Trump associates, knocking them down one by one. Take a plea or get convicted, he has got a nice track record so far.

This sure won't help the trend if it goes thru.  For these employees they will be in the red over 2.5% due to inflation this past year and no raise.
http://www.post-gazette.com/news/politics-nation/2018/08/30/Trump-cancels-pay-raises-for-most-federal-employees-set-to-take-effect-in-January/stories/201808300170

You are right a downward shift is what I see q1, 2017 which just happens to coincide with Trump taking office.  Clearly you see a level shift for Trump compared to Obama's recent years or you are blind as a bat....  But hey you are good turning a real average wage discussion into consumer confidence comparing apples to oranges because well you can't get around the obvious downward trend so have to change the subject.  Just like someone I know, Mr. Flipper himself.  Inflation is eating any raises we get, and no we are not getting the $6k to $8k raise Trump promised his faithful.

. . .
Obama had a nice post recession run in 2015 and 2016 that Trump seems to be killing.  That is one heck of a drop from one president to the current.

....a-w-w-w-w-w-....

Didn’t hear the whiney libs gripe one ioda during all those years when GI’s were in the red deeper and deeper year after year, not even scraping by with their shameful minimal below inflation raises, and then took a further pay cut when the service member deployed overseas on a short tour, while the civil service ranks were staying consistently comfortably above inflation with their ever growing cost-of-living GS-grade salaries.

The daughters have never lost sight of living in base housing and still not making it even with the full allotment of federal food stamps, with Mom having to get a job to make ends meet. I tried to get the grave shift to be able to be home with the kids while Mom worked during the day. Tho, the competition for being assigned to the limited number of mids and graves was stiff due the enlisted ranks being in the same financial boat.

Two-thirds of the Civil Service work force is employed in the top half of the GS pay scale.
