I clearly remember the birth of the 60s Women's Movement as a little girl, with such great hopes for my future. But as life unfolded for this American woman, little changed. Lied to about salary ( from a religious non-profit ), passed over by boys for advancement and so forth. My own personal anecdotal experiences have revealed to me that sexism and the good ol boy networks of the US are alive and well. Cities and many large corporate - style institutions have improved somewhat thru training. My hope is that the younger generation, which so far SEEM to want more equality and fairness, continue in their strivings. IMHO. We are all, unfortunately, selfish creatures and putting others before us is damn hard to do.

....everybody has their own story.

Three daughters. They vividly remember living in base housing and getting food stamps back in the day.

Now, all college grads, continuously productively rising thru their respective professional corporate management rat races during the various bubble busts.

Two of three earning significantly more than their college gradate husbands, with substantial golden parachutes in place and college funds stashed away to partially pay for the grandkids’ college educations (I made the girls pay for a third of their college; the tradition appears to be continuing). The third continues to professionally kick butt electing to remaining single and socking lots of investment capital away for her projected very early retirement. All former libs in college.

True. Your daughters are not in my generation. I, too, have a college degree. Things change, but slowly for women and even then it's uphill battle for many.

My newly discovered niece has an industrial engineering degree from PSU and an MBA from Wake Forest. A math whiz. She manages a 3M square foot warehouse for Nike at age 49, Oon her way to becoming a VP. Nike is a very progressive company although she was initially offered a secretarial job....🤔

Step daughter is head nurse at the Bradenton FLA School District and is doing well in her career. 2 Grand Daughters... one still in High School and the older one a 3rd year Law Student. The High Schooler has zeroed in on becoming a Brain Surgeon. She is a brain,, so we will see where ends up.

Now, my point... Today it is what you follow that dictates your growth at work and financial level. Back 40 years ago we had jobs (Government) that paid equal and had upward mobility without much of a gender pigeon hole. I worked for the Government and working through the Levels...all were paid the same scale..male, female or ....otherwise. My first Government job was military... rank and time in rank determined the base. Extra qualifications meant more $$$ be it in combat, Jump School etc. In my other job... time in level determined your next raise....standard time frames for all. To rise, you went into management or a higher level job... Gender meant little.

What I see.... Males generally go for the career to take care of family... females usually go for family over employment. So... things to consider... Pregnancies, calls to come home or to school to care for children. Maybe male roles are changed. Add to this.... in Divorce, the Female usually gets the children so it is even more pronounced. Maybe the real equity begins after the children are grown and out and menopause is in flux. I don't know. Until God changes things... I can see some of the inequity. The old adage is not far off.... the male is the hunter (away from home parameters) and female, gathers (close to home parameters). Who has the answer that "cures" this?

Reminding you, I am looking through 70 yo eyes, mind, and heart. Ya'll enjoy beating on me... *S*

You're right lifetime , but not ALL women want to work and certainly in the 70s, the workplace was not as accommodating as it is today. I married rather late for bring a Boomer, age 34, and as a working girl who was well educated, great work ethic, I found it to be overly challenging to prepare for long range retirement. There was no equal pay unless you were unionised or worked for the Feds in any capacity. It was demoralising.

The list that Trump blames others for would be too long for this forum.

Small story... many years ago a new employee (FM) came in our office. She left her job as a teller at a local bank. The bank... being private sector, had a rule... no teller/employee would divulge their salaries to anyone else in the bank... Well, that being said... she finds out that she was paid MORE than the other tellers , even though she was new. Who's fault is that? Her... or her employer?

And it is known that, more often than not, when non union persons have to negotiate their own raises and starting salaries... women are less "forceful" and thus can end up with LESS than a male or more "forceful" female in the salary/benefit department. I have seen this within my circle of friends and relatives. This still exists today... if you don't stand up for yourself... no one will step up for you or rarely will.

You're right lifetime , but not ALL women want to work and certainly in the 70s, the workplace was not as accommodating as it is today.
